The nearest petrol station is The Old Bridge Garage in Carrbridge which is open until 7pm. There are others in Aviemore and Grantown. Auto gas (LPG) is available at Dulnain Bridge Garage.

Food shopping

A wide choice of goods is available at the Post Office with both offering fresh fruit and veg, local cheeses and meat and a selection of interesting breads and rolls. Both shops are licensed. The Post Office is currently not opened on a Sunday.

The nearest butcher is the highly recommended Bailliefurth’s in Nethybridge.

The fish van calls through the village on Wednesday lunchtimes and the Post Office will take your order if you are out for the day.

Public computer

There is a computer at the rear of the Post Office, and also a photocopier.


The Boat of Garten Post Office offers access to certain facilities of the Co-Op Bank, Alliance & Leicester, Lloyds TSB, the Clydesdale Bank and the Bank of Ireland as well as the Internet facilities Smile and Cahoot. The Post Office and Dow’s have cash machines.

Locally the Bank of Scotland is in Aviemore (01479 810288) and Grantown (01479 872517). The Royal Bank of Scotland has a branch in Aviemore (01479 812623) and Grantown (01479 872768) and its Mobile Bank visits the village on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3 – 4.00 pm.

Lloyds TSB has a branch available in Grantown (0845 3000000).

Bus Service

Boat of Garten is on the Aviemore-Grantown bus route. See timetable outside the old Village Hall and in the bus shelter.


Libraries are in the Aviemore Community Centre (01479 811113) and Grantown High Street (01479 873175). The Mobile Library is in Boat of Garten on alternate Mondays 10.00 – 11.20 at three different locations and at Drumullie 11.25 – 11.35.

Medical Practices are at the Aviemore Health Centre (01479 810258) and Grantown-on-Spey Health Centre (01479 872484).


The main hospital for the area is Raigmore in Inverness (01463 704000).

Refuse Collection
