“Rock the Boat” – Starting Tue 30 April 7.30

We are very excited to introduce a new activity at the Boat Hall. After many requests, we approached a number of people about the idea of starting an “all abilities, fun, singing group”. We are very pleased that Ann Napier, Alan Gristwood, Amy Taylor, Denise Robertson and Mark Holroyd have all agreed to help bring the group together.
The intention is to create a group session for people of all ages and abilities to have the opportunity to “belt out your favourite tunes” in a fun environment. Everyone is welcome to come along and sing like you sing in your car!
We will be running a 6 week taster session starting 30 April at 7.30pm. No need to commit to the full 6 weeks. Just come along to as many sessions as you like.

TOMS : Trio Apaches – Wed 03 April at 7.30

The next TOMS concert on Wed 03 April at 7.30pm, marks a welcome return from Trio Apaches – a Piano Trio comprising three young and extremely talented musicians:

Matthew Trusler – Violin, Thomas Carroll – Cello and Ashley Wass – piano.

Trio Apaches was officially formed at the 2012 Lincolnshire International Chamber Music Festival. It all began because we had such a good time together both on and off stage.

The trio is named after an innovative and often controversial group of Parisian-based artists which formed around 1900. Its members included the composers Ravel, Stravinsky and Manuel de Falla, as well as painters, poets and music critics of the day. The group adopted the name after they’d inadvertently bumped into a newspaper seller who exclaimed “Attention les apaches!”, and was embraced as an appropriate representation of their revolutionary spirit.

Besides taking great inspiration from the extraordinary artistic achievements of this illustrious group of individuals, we as a trio quite enjoy having a name few will pronounce correctly. The fact it means “hooligans” makes it all the better.

The programme will be :

Ravel : Piano Trio in A Minor

Rachmaninov : Piano Trio No. 1

Saint-Saens : Danse Macabre

Debussy : La Mer (Transcribed for Trio Apaches by Sally Beamish)
