Boat of Garten Community Garden

In the beginning

There had always been a small, difficult to access Community Garden on roughly the current site. With the help of the Boat Hotel and the Strathspey Railway it was decided to increase the size and the accessibility of the then garden, but how?

Then someone thought of BBC’s Beechgrove Garden’s Community Projects. A successful application was made and then the hard work started, working to a plan created by Kirsty Maclean, Beechgrove Garden’s Designer. Of course many others helped , not least those sponsors who gave financial and material assistance.

Building the path in the new garden
Months of hard work transformed the garden.
Old hotel car-park
The car-park of the Boat Hotel was incorporated into the top of the garden, enabled by the gift of it from the Hotel.
Opening of the new garden
Finally, the garden was opened in early September with the Beechgrove team televising the garden and involving many local people in a half hour programme.
The new garden in bloom
The garden was now planted and ready to grow.

Of course, the garden continues today - read more here.
