The Boat of Garten & Vicinity Community Council

River Spey

The Community Council is the official body representing the inhabitants of the village and its vicinity.

It is a duly constituted body with a range of sub-committees, etc., funded by the Highland Council. Its role has always been to listen to its constituents on a wide range of matters and draw attention to them at local government level. Over the past few years the role of the Council has also changed and it has become a consultee on an enormously wide range of subjects such as planning applications, policy planning by the Highland Council, Utilities Companies and now a series of consultations with the National Park.

Equally, it has always striven to undertake a range of projects aimed at furthering the public good – be they the major Millennium project of waymarking a range of paths in and around the village, the creation of the Hide at Milton Loch, the Village Gateway (in conjunction with the Community Company) and, this year, organising the popular Bonfire Night. It is also proud to have been the co-creator (with the then Visitor Association) of this Boat of Garten Community Website.

The Community Council meets on the first Monday of every month (except in August and January) in the New Community Hall at 7.30pm and meetings are always open to all - just come along and see what we do . If there is an issue that you would like the Council to discuss, contact the Secretary to ask if it can go on the Agenda for the next meeting - we are here to represent the whole community.
