Interested in walking or climbing in the Scottish mountains? Andy Nisbet offers guiding and instruction at all levels, from summer hill walking and rock climbing to advanced ice-climbing.
Based at the foot of the Cairngorms, the mountains and climbing areas are easily accessible so Andy can use his expert local knowledge to choose the best routes suiting the conditions for you to fulfil your ambitions.
From centrally placed Boat of Garten, most of the Highlands can be reached. So if your partners are not available for Munros, Corbetts or the classic rock climbs of Scotland, possibly even exploring for new routes in the North-West Highlands, we are the folk to contact!
Accommodation can be arranged locally if required.
Andy is possibly Scotland’s best known winter climber, having made over 500
first ascents, including some of the hardest routes in Scotland. Andy began
climbing in 1972, and soon became one of Scotland’s foremost climbers,
pioneering the use of ice-axe torquing and opening up new possibilities for
mixed climbing.
With a similar number of summer new routes spread over most of the major cliffs of the Cairngorms and Northern Highlands, Andy is still very active and with his wealth of knowledge and experience is still discovering new routes of a high quality and standard, as well as checking out new classics for future guidebooks. Andy has gathered an immense knowledge of Scottish climbing over the years and is the New Routes Editor for the Scottish Mountaineering Club. He has written or contributed to several Guidebooks on Scottish climbing including: Scottish Rock Climbs, Scottish Winter Climbs, The Cairngorms, Northern Highlands North, Northern Highlands Central, North East Outcrops and Highland Outcrops. He was featured in the TV programme ‘The Edge- A History of Scottish Climbing’.
Born and brought up in Aberdeen, Andy grew up with a love of the hills and
during his school years was an avid Munroist completing all the Munros for
the first time at the age of 19. He is currently on his 4th round
of Munros and has also climbed the Corbetts. Andy has also climbed in other
parts of the world, including several expeditions to Nepal and the Indian
Himalaya. He has been on Everest, reaching a high point of 7900m on the NE
ridge.
After working at Glenmore Lodge for many years, Andy now works as a freelance guide and instructor and holds the Mountaineering Instructors Certificate (MIC).
